The Met Office has issued amber weather warnings for parts of Wales and Southwest England as significant rainfall is expected over the coming weekend.
Affected Areas
The warnings cover:
- South Wales valleys
- Brecon Beacons National Park
- Somerset Levels
- Devon and Cornwall coastal areas
Expected Conditions
Forecasters predict 60-80mm of rain in 24 hours, with some elevated areas potentially receiving up to 100mm. This volume of rainfall on already saturated ground significantly increases flood risk.
Official Advice
The Environment Agency advises residents in affected areas to:
- Sign up for flood alerts at gov.uk/flood
- Move vehicles to higher ground if at risk
- Prepare sandbags and flood barriers
- Know how to turn off utilities safely
